Avenue

An enhanced job searching platform for small businesses.

Combating the tedious and tiresome employment process.

The average job seeker’s experience can be frustrating, draining, and confusing, and employer’s is the same.

Tackling the issue at the source, Avenue is a fresh job-searching platform designed to streamline the recruitment process. With an emphasis on ease and optimized matching, Avenue ensures employers stay engaged and easily find their ideal candidate.

Context

My initial research with job-seekers aimed to combat the current job-finding and hiring system. Users often complained the process was unclear, time-consuming, and felt one-sided due to a lack of feedback.

To find the root of the issue, we examined the system as a whole and found LinkedIn and Indeed’s clustered layouts and focus on quantity over quality created an information overload. The true problem worth solving for was the employer’s interaction with the job posting

Key User Insights

We conducted user interviews with 3 employers to find the disconnect between postings and hiring. We discussed questions ranging from the initial planning process to tracking and contacting candidates.

Time Consuming

On average, hiring can be painstaking, and it can take an unpredictable amount of time to find someone suitable for the company/position.

A Lack of Mutual Attraction

Hiring managers and employers are unsure if their posting reaches the ideal group as a reflection of the candidates they often receive.

Great Effort Put In,
Less Reciprocated

With the amount of time put in, hiring seems like too much of a hassle and discourages some, as the candidate pool isn’t always satisfactory.

Problem Statement

How might we help employers efficiently create accessible and transparent job postings for potential candidates and streamline the tedious hiring process?

Our Solution: Avenue

Avenue takes inspiration from dating sites by using a unique algorithim and filtering system to ensure employers find their right match, enhancing the quality of hires.

With a streamlined process, simplfied interface, and quick tools, Avenue eases employer experience and ensures efficient management and candidate tracking, decreasing uncertainties and confusion among job seekers.

Create quick and easy job postings

Using a pre-made, customizable template, creating postings and setting up applications can be done seamlessly. AI tools are also available in-site to aid in inspiring the job requirements when employers are stuck or in a time-crunch.

Track and sort candidates with ease

Speed up the employment process by utilizing a secondary layer of keyword filtering, enhancing productivity and maintaining candidate quality.

View your compatibility

Similar to pre-existing software on dating apps and job board software, employers are able to see an overview of how well the candidate resume matches to the posting.

“Meet” candidates beyond the resume

With the option of adding a pre-screening questionnaire, employer are able to view more information about their candidates early on with three categories: workspace, workflow, and social network.

Visual Identity

Intended to help smaller businesses thrive, our product stands as the ‘avenue’ to connect employers with the right candidate. Alongside another member, I designed the visual system, logo, and enhanced existing icons.

We incorporated neutral colours, elegant typography, and minimalist linework to craft a user-friendly experience, creating an inviting, professional environment. The simplicity and space allows for breathability to prevent visual clutter and overwhelm

Takeaways

Avenue was an insightful challenge that allowed me to gain and refine skills, such as user interviewing, and understand the importance of in-depth research analysis. Building an effective product from the ground up required much scrutiny and constant communication with users and group members, allowing me to understand how to keep users at the forefront of design.
